In his opening remarks, Dr. Muk Yan Wong, Associate Professor in the Department of Social Science, welcomed Ms. Chow and described the series as a practical initiative to bring together diverse perspectives and develop actionable ideas. 

In her presentation, Ms. Chow examined the compatibility of sustained GDP-driven economic growth with environmental sustainability. The seminar explored how prevailing development models, characterised by continuous economic expansion, intensive resource consumption, and carbon-dependent production systems, have accelerated climate change. Ms. Chow also presented examples of “greenwashing”, illustrating the growing importance that consumers and governments place on environmental, social, and governance (ESG) considerations. 

The presentation was followed by an engaging discussion on whether mandatory climate disclosure requirements lead to substantive changes in corporate behaviour or primarily shape corporate communication strategies. Students contributed actively, sharing thoughtful perspectives and valuable insights.
