On 14 August 2026, the 2026 Nordic–East Asia Higher Education Research Symposium was successfully held at Tampere University, Finland. The symposium was jointly organised by Tampere University, the University of Stavanger (Norway), and School of Transdisciplinary Studies of The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong.
Themed “Higher Education and Society in Turbulent Times”, the symposium attracted scholars from the United Kingdom, the United States, Europe, and East Asia. Participants engaged in in-depth discussions on frontier issues including geopolitical shifts, digital transformation, talent mobility, and institutional resilience.
Professor Mok Ka-ho, Vice-President (Academic and Research) and Director of School of Transdisciplinary Studies of The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong, delivered a keynote speech entitled “The Quest for International Higher Education in Hong Kong: Comparative Perspectives and Public Policy Issues”. The research presented was funded by the Chief Executive Policy Unit of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. By comparing higher education development in Hong Kong and the Nordic regions, Professor Mok proposed policy recommendations for enhancing internationalisation strategies, which drew considerable attention and positive feedback from the audience.
