- 13 March 2026
The School of Transdisciplinary Studies at The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong hosted its first Brownbag Seminar on 13 March 2026, titled “Navigating Geoeducational Dilemmas: Chinese Students’ Transnational Mobility in a Changing Global Order.” The seminar featured a presentation by Mr. Ri Gwan, a PhD student at Peking University, China, and attracted both local and non-local participants, including postgraduate students and faculty members.
In his presentation, Mr. Ri Gwan examined Chinese students’ transnational mobility in Sweden. Drawing on ethnographic and digital research, he explored how academic and immigration policies shape international students’ educational, career, and life trajectories. He highlighted how students strategically navigate welfare systems, digital communities, and cultural norms such as “lagom” to manage uncertainty and pursue long-term stability, with notable gender differences.
The lively discussion addressed issues of student support, research ethics, and new ways of understanding global student mobility beyond traditional push–pull models. Stay tuned for our next seminar in April.
